Text input fields

Introduction

Text input fields allow your customers to enter additional information directly alongside the product. This is useful, for example, for personalised products such as stamps, engravings or gifts.

Setting up text input fields for products

To set how many text input fields should be available per product:

  1. Open the shop administration.
  2. Navigate to ‘Settings’ → “General” → ‘Edit products’.
  3. In the ‘Number of text input fields’ section, enter the desired number of fields.
  4. Save your changes. The fields will then be visible in the product editor.

Note: If the text input fields are not visible in the product, switch to ‘Text fields’ in the top tab.

Product editing

In the product editing section, you can configure each text input field individually:

  • Description before and after the content:
Enter a note that will be displayed above or below the field.

  • Field length and maximum character count:

    • Field length: Width of the input field in characters
    • Maximum length: Maximum number of characters the customer is allowed to enter
  • Field height:
Number of lines displayed in the input field

  • Enable required field:
Using the ‘Required field’ checkbox, you can specify whether the field must be filled in

  • Input type:

    • Text: free text input
    • Number: only numeric inputs allowed
    • Email: Entry must be a valid email address

Example: Creating a stamp

In this example, we will create a stamp item where the customer can enter their name, address and email individually.

Step 1: Create a new item

  1. Navigate to ‘Product range → Items → +New’.
  2. Enter:
    • Item name (mandatory field)
    • Price (mandatory field)
    • Optionally, an item number – if left blank, one will be generated automatically

Our example item is a stamp on which customers can enter their personal details.

Step 2: Configure text input fields

  1. Switch to the ‘Text fields’ tab at the top.
  2. If the text input fields are not visible, first set the number under ‘Settings → General → Edit articles’ (see the section “Setting text input fields for articles”).

Step 3: Define field description and attributes

  • Description before content:
Here you can enter a note that is displayed before the input field.
Example for a stamp: ‘Text 1st line’ for the first line of the stamp.

  • Description after content:
Optional note displayed below the field

  • Additional attributes:

    • Field length
    • Maximum number of characters
    • Field height
    • Enable required field
    • Input type (text, number, email)

These settings make it clear which data the customer should enter in which line.

Step 4: Save and check

  1. Save the item.
  2. Check on the customer side whether the text input fields are displayed correctly.
  3. Test entering different values to ensure that required fields, character limits and labels are working correctly.
