Create categories

Introduction

Under Categories you manage the category structure of your Shop. Categories represent containers to which articles (products) are assigned.

An article can be assigned to several categories at the same time. The categories are displayed in the main menu.

There are four category types:

• Main Categories : Categories presented on the first level. These can have subcategories and also category headings.
• Subcategories : Subcategories always have a parent category, but can also have other subcategories.
• Virtual categories: Categories to which no items can be assigned directly, since the assignment is defined using assignment rules such as “all items in the shop with special offers” or “promotional items”.
• System categories : System categories may never be deleted, this applies above all to the system category «Not assigned», to which all items are assigned that are no longer assigned to a category.

Edit configuration

When you click on the “Edit configuration” button, you will be redirected to the configuration menu for the categories.

Category display

The categories can be presented either as a tree or with drop-down menus.

Effect of clicking on a category with subcategories

If a category has subcategories, how the shop responds when you click on such a category is defined here.

• Show subcategories for selection: When you click on a category with subcategories, the shop displays its subcategories as a list for selection.
• Open the first subcategory at the lowest level: When you click on a category with subcategories, the shop jumps to the first category at the lowest level and opens these products immediately.

Cross-category article display

If a value other than “switched off” is selected in the drop-down menu, PepperShop will immediately display all articles from all other subcategories from the specified level downwards when you click on a category with further subcategories.

Create category

To create a new category, select «New category».

Category name

In the «Name» field you determine the category name. This is required for the menu structure.

Description

In the description you can enter a text that will be displayed at the top of the category page. You can also insert a content editor page (cf. content above / content below)

In order for the text to be displayed, you must activate the « Show description » field.

Categories heading

Category headings are descriptive text that is placed in front of a group of categories. They can be used to subdivide individual categories at the same category level. The category heading is only displayed in the administration and is for internal purposes.

SEO Fields

SEO title and description are determined automatically. By deactivating the checkbox you can determine the SEO fields yourself.

Content above / Content below

You can also display pages that you have created with the Content Editor below or above the article list in the category.

Visibility

With the “Visibility” item, you control whether an existing category is also displayed or not. If the check mark is not set, the category is no longer displayed to the customer.

Settings

Under Settings you can determine the properties of this category.

Promo

If you activate the checkbox here and the category does not contain any articles, all promotional articles of this shop will be displayed together.

Actions

If you activate the checkbox here and the category does not contain any articles, all promotional articles of this shop are displayed together.

Additional fields

The additional fields are completed in the Objects Category. The values can be used for customization programming.

VAT default rate:

If the items in this online shop are subject to VAT and VAT management has been activated via Settings - General, you can specify the default VAT rate here, which is assigned to each newly added item in this category, if ‘Default VAT rate of the category’ is selected there.

Category ranking

Finally you can insert the category in the category overview.

Edit category

To edit a created category again, you can click on the category and go to Properties. Then you arrive in the same field as in the Create category chapter.
