Introduction

Create ShareThis Account

ShareThis is the base software used in the module to connect all external services. The service is free. Creating a ShareThis account is necessary so that detailed statistics of shop visitor access to this bookmarking and sharing service are available afterwards. In addition, you can personalise the display design directly at ShareThis.

To create a ShareThis account, open the URL https://sharethis.com/de/ and register.

Module Configuration

1. Activate module

  • Navigate to “Modules” → “Social Bookmarking” in the shop administration.
  • Activate the “ShareThis” module by setting the corresponding option to “Activated”.
  • After activation, ShareThis will be made available in your shop.

2. Activate display on products

  • Open the “Modules” → “Social Bookmarking” section again.
  • Activate the “Display ShareThis on products” option.
  • This will make the ShareThis widget appear automatically on each individual product in the shop.

3. Enter ShareThis Property ID

  • Visit sharethis.com and register for a free account.
  • After registration, create a new property for your website.
  • Copy the provided Property ID (e.g. 5e123456789abc0012345678).
  • Enter this ID in the Swiss21 backend under “Modules” → “Social Bookmarking” in the “Property ID” field.

4. Access ShareThis Dashboard

  • For further settings (e.g. selection of networks or design adjustment):
    • Open the ShareThis Dashboard.
    • Log in with your ShareThis account.
    • There you can individually configure your sharing buttons and view statistics.

For the configured button to now also be displayed in your shop, you must enter the ShareThis Property ID in the shop administration. You can find the ID in the ShareThis Dashboard when you click on Settings in the left column. You should now see an ID, which you can insert in the shop administration in the “ShareThis Property ID” field.

Display with ShareThis profile

With a ShareThis profile, you can choose between different display options. For something to be displayed, you must first set up the buttons in the ShareThis Dashboard.

Inline Share Buttons

With the Inline Share Buttons, you enable your customers to share products or page content directly via their preferred social network – simply and quickly.

Procedure in ShareThis Dashboard

  1. Log in to ShareThis Dashboard Log in at https://platform.sharethis.com with your ShareThis account.

  2. Select “Inline Share Buttons” tool Select the “Inline Share Buttons” tool from the list of available tools in the dashboard.

  3. Activate tool Click on the “Activate tool” button to enable the function.

  4. Make adjustments Open the advanced settings to make the following configurations:

    • “Selection of networks” via which sharing is possible (e.g. Facebook, X/Twitter, WhatsApp etc.)
    • “Positioning of buttons” (e.g. above or below content)
    • “Display and design” of the buttons, such as colour, shape and style
    • “Language settings” and sharing behaviour

    You will typically find these options in an expandable area or under a settings menu within the tool.

Display in shop (customer side)

After successfully activating and configuring the tool via the ShareThis Dashboard as well as entering the Property ID in the Swiss21 backend (see previous guide), the “Inline Share Buttons automatically appear on products” in the shop.

They are displayed there directly in the product area and enable visitors to share content with just one click on the respective social platforms.

Sticky Share Buttons

With the “Sticky Share Buttons” (also known as “Floating Share Buttons”), your customers can share content from your shop at any time – regardless of how far they have scrolled down the page. The buttons remain visible at the screen edge and thus increase the visibility and reach of your content in social networks.

Procedure for activation

  1. Log in to ShareThis Dashboard Open the ShareThis Dashboard and log in with your user account.

  2. Select “Sticky Share Buttons” tool Select the tool labelled “Sticky Share Buttons” or “Floating Share Buttons” in the dashboard.

  3. Activate tool Click on “Activate tool” to enable the function.

  4. Configure tool Open the tool settings to make individual adjustments:

    • “Selection of social networks” that should be displayed
    • “Position of buttons” (e.g. left or right at the screen edge)
    • “Display mode on mobile devices” (on or off)
    • “Design options” such as button size, style and colour

    These settings enable complete customisation to the appearance and user guidance of your shop.

Display in shop (customer side)

Once the tool is activated and correctly set up, the Sticky Share Buttons automatically appear at the edge of the shop page. They remain visible when scrolling and offer visitors the opportunity to share products or content on social networks at any time.

Individual settings

In the “ShareThis Dashboard” you can flexibly adapt the buttons to the design and requirements of your shop.

The following adjustments are possible:

  1. Selection of social networks (Channels): Specify which networks should be displayed (e.g. Facebook, WhatsApp, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.).
  2. Positioning and alignment: Determine where the buttons appear – for example at the top or bottom edge of a product (for Inline Buttons) or at the side of the screen (for Sticky Buttons). For Sticky Buttons, you can also choose between left and right screen side.
  3. Colour scheme: Choose between coloured, grey or single-colour buttons, matching the style of your shop.
  4. Button size: Set the button size so that it is clearly visible but not intrusive – ideal for desktop and mobile devices.
  5. Button style: Choose between round or square buttons and specify whether only the symbol or also text should be displayed.
  6. Display behaviour: Define whether the buttons should always be visible or only appear when scrolling, as well as whether they should also be displayed on mobile devices.

These settings can be found in the respective tool area (e.g. Inline Share Buttons or Sticky Share Buttons) directly in the “ShareThis Dashboard”. Changes are saved there and automatically adopted in the shop once the correct Property ID has been entered.

Display in Content Editor

You can display ShareThis buttons not only on products, but also specifically integrate them on individual content pages – e.g. on the home page, in the footer or on information pages.

How to proceed:

  1. Select page

    • Navigate to “Content” → “Pages” in the shop administration.
    • Select the page on which you want to insert the buttons, e.g. the home page.

  2. Add HTML code section

    • In the Content Editor, click on “Add content” and select the “HTML code” option from the content list.
    • The new HTML block now appears in the editor.

  3. Insert HTML code

    • Double-click on the added “HTML code block” to open the editing window.
    • Insert the “Share button code” that you copied in the “ShareThis Dashboard” into the text field.
      • This code is automatically generated in the ShareThis backend once you have activated and configured a tool (e.g. Inline or Sticky Buttons).

  4. Save

    • Finally, click on “Save” to update the page.

    • The ShareThis buttons now appear on the desired shop page.

**Note:**If you want to insert the HTML code in the footer or at another recurring location, repeat the process on the corresponding page or template position in the content area of the shop.
