Introduction

In this guide, we explain step by step how to make the SMTP settings. The SMTP settings are used to ensure that you continue to receive order confirmation emails.

What is an SMTP port?

An SMTP port is a communication endpoint that is responsible for transferring information from one server to another. While SMTP ensures the delivery of most emails over the Internet, ports ensure that emails reach their destination.

What is an SMTP host?

An SMTP host is a server that uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to send and forward emails. SMTP is the standard protocol for sending e-mails on the Internet. The SMTP host receives emails from an email client and forwards them to the intended recipient. It can also receive emails from other mail servers.

Typical examples of SMTP hosts are the servers of email providers such as Gmail, Outlook or specialised hosting services. To send emails via an SMTP host, you usually need the address of the server, a port (often 25, 587 or 465 for SSL/TLS) and login information if the server requires authentication.

What is an SMTP user?

The SMTP user is a user of an SMTP server that sends e-mails via the Internet. The SMTP user name is used to authenticate the mail provider before an e-mail is sent. The SMTP server contacts a DNS server, which provides an SMTP destination server

What is an SMTP password?

The SMTP password is the password you need to send emails via the SMTP server. If you have set up an e-mail account, you have usually also created an SMTP password1. The SMTP password corresponds to the password for your e-mail inbox. If you have forgotten your SMTP password, you can find it in your email account settings.

What could a test email be?

In short, these are experiments in which two variants of an email are sent to different recipient groups. The aim is to find out which variant achieves better results, e.g. in the form of a higher open or click rate.

Configuration

Go to your shop admin

Under Settings > General you will find the “SMTP settings for own mail dispatch” under point 3

Under point 3, you must activate “Use SMTP” and then enter the SMTP host, the SMTP port, the SMTP user and the SMTP password. You can then send a test mail.
